15 cleaning tips for a sparking clean car

By Marie-Pier Hamon – on in Tricks, Cars
Your car can sometimes be extremely dirty and even emit a bad smell; here are some tips to have a sparkling clean car.

Does your car look like it just came out of a pool of mud? Does its interior smell awfully bad, to the point where you get a gag reflex every time you get in? If yes, it is obviously time for you to clean your car properly once and for all!

Many of us leave a lot of things lying around in the back of our car and on the seats, so much so that when we invite a friend or family member in our car, we have to do a mini express cleaning so they have room to sit comfortably.

Are you tired of that dirty, messy look and unpleasant smell you can’t get rid of? Here are some tips that will help you a lot!

1 Tires

A simple bleaching powder can help you clean your car like a professional. Choose a brand like Bar Keepers Friend, Clorox or Bon Ami, which are the most effective. Take a micro fibre cloth or towel, sprinkle a little powder on it and lightly spray Lysol on the powder. Clean your tires with this magical mix and keep adding more powder until your tires shine. You may have to rub a little, but your wheels will look amazingly clean afterwards!

2 Essential oils

Don’t waste money on car air fresheners that don’t smell that good. Instead, take a few wooden clothespins and add a few drops of your favourite essential oils (lavender, rosemary, incense, etc.) on them. Attach the clothespin to your air vents. Every time you turn on the heat or air conditioner, your car will smell like patchouli or lavender!

3 Toothbrush

If your dashboard starts to get a little dirty, you can use a toothbrush to get a deep cleaning and remove more dirt. When you are finished, keep your toothbrush so that you can use it again in the future. Also, use the toothbrush to wash every inch of your seats and backrests. You will be amazed at the amount of dirt embedded in your seats.

4 Toothpaste

In addition to using a toothbrush to clean your car, you can use toothpaste to clean your dirty headlights. Simply spread toothpaste all over them, wait a few minutes, then rinse them. Your headlights will shine brighter than ever!

5 Windows

When washing car windows, many people forget to clean the top part. To remove all dirt, lower the window a little and clean the top. This will give you clean and bright windows.

6 WD-40

Do you regret adding those stickers on your new car? Don’t worry, with the help of WD-40, you can remove even the stickest of stickers. Simply spray a little WD-40 directly on the sticker, soak it for a while, then remove it all at once.

7 Rubbing alcohol

Wikihow

Viscous windshield wipers are the worst but replacing them every time they get viscous is too expensive, so what should you do when your wiper wipes water off your windshield but leaves terrible marks? To solve this common problem, you just have to wipe your wipers with a generous amount of rubbing alcohol and let them dry. You will still need to replace them regularly, but this will at least extend their lifespan by some time.

8 Conditioner

An excellent alternative to wax, and to obtain a comparable shine, is to use a hair conditioner. In the same way that it can make your hair shiny, it can do the same for the paint on a car. Just make sure you choose a conditioner that contains lanolin, which is the magic ingredient that gives a waxy finish. Simply pour a little bit into a towel and apply it in circular movements until your car is shiny as new.

9 Sticky slime

Yes, you read that correctly! Don’t you feel like you’re back in kindergarten when you clean your car with this sticky slime? You can either buy it online or make it yourself, which is quite easy. Simply mix 1/2 cup of liquid starch, a 4 oz bottle of Elmer glue and 1/4 cup of water to finally enjoy a clean car that is dust free.

10 Aeration vents

It’s actually worse than it looks! If your car smells really bad and you don’t know why you may have to replace the air vents or at least clean them. Before cleaning, always check for mould, which is more disturbing than a bad smell and can cause breathing problems. If it is mould, you must replace the entire vents. Otherwise, clean vigorously and use Q-tips to go between cracks.

11 Diapers

Some people say that this tested and approved cleaning method does not work to eliminate liquid messes, but seriously, do you know anything more absorbent than a diaper? If you are a mother, you almost always have a diaper at hand. Try it and see for yourself that it works very well.

12 Soaked newspaper

Is your university parking sticker still on your car, even if you graduated years ago because it is too difficult to remove it? The easiest way to get rid of these unsightly stickers is to take a newspaper, crumple it, moisten it and keep rubbing it against the sticker until the sticker comes off. If this fails, try to remove the paper with a transparent nail polish, then rub hard.

13 Vaseline

This substance can do much more than make your lashes thicker. All these expensive dashboard cleaners have nothing against Vaseline. Petroleum jelly will not only make your interior shine, but regular use will also prevent your dashboard from cracking. It’s very effective!

14 Charcoal briquettes

Car air fresheners only mask bad smells, they do not eliminate them. If you are the kind of person who eats submarine sandwiches (with extra onions) in your car, the best thing to do is to buy charcoal briquettes and place them under your car seats. Charcoal absorbs bad smells. In addition, you can always use them for a barbecue later! However, briquettes will not make your car smell good.

15 Coke

trueactivist.com

This incredible cleaning hack may force you to wonder what you’re putting in your body when you drink a glass of Coke. This substance is so strong that you can use it to remove rust stains. If the stain is particularly stubborn, pour coke on steel wool and rub in circular movements.
