What is Hatha Yoga? A short guide for yogis

Although many people know what yoga is or have already practiced it, few know what Hatha Yoga is all about.

Yoga is becoming increasingly popular. This activity is so popular that new kinds of yoga are constantly being discovered, to the delight of those who enjoy this activity. Indeed, if we used to only talk about yoga, we now hear about Hot Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, Kundalini Yoga and Power Yoga. Hatha Yoga is also very popular in yoga centres. What exactly is this form of yoga and what are the advantages?

What is Hatha Yoga?

Hatha Yoga, unlike other kinds of yoga, is made up of slow movements. So you can do this activity whether you are a neophyte or a yoga enthusiast. Hatha Yoga is based on the execution of a succession of postures that require a lot of concentration. Each posture should be maintained for about 3 minutes.

What does a Hatha Yoga session look like?

As mentioned above, a Hatha Yoga session consists of taking several postures, one after the other, and maintaining them for about 3 minutes. During your yoga session, you should also try to control your breath and breathing (pranayama). All this is done by being well focused on the present moment. Hatha Yoga classes usually end with exercises and relaxation techniques.

What are the benefits of yoga on your mental and physical health?

Hatha Yoga has many benefits, both for physical and mental health. Indeed, regular practice of yoga, especially Hatha Yoga, increases flexibility, strengthens joints and reduces back pain. It also promotes stress management, helps to achieve inner peace and reduces insomnia. There are therefore several advantages to practicing yoga on a daily basis.
